Episode 9: into the maw

The party sails into the Abyss itself, seeking to infiltrate a demonic prison fortress and turn its fiendish factions against each other.

Episode 1 (11/28/2008)

Revised history provided in bold.

  • The group used the crystal ball to try to figure out Lavinia's predicament.  She was found to be locked in a cage suspended over a pit of lava.  The room she is in is large, with 10 foot walkways on all edges with the large lava pit taking up most of the space.  There are two other cages which contain another demon and a very forlorn looking trumpet archon.  Vanthus is conspicuously absent from her environs and thoughts (you didn't mention him) but he's probably somewhere in the prison too.  Her immediate custodian is a demon whose species she does not recognise.
  • The group 'installed' the wakeportal and activated it.  They found themselves in the Abyssal Ocean, only knowing that they must head toward the plane known as The Gaping Map (which is where the city Lemoriax is located).
  • The group encountered a group of interplanar merchants known as the Mercane.  The group purchased information and a few sending scrolls, the latter so that they may contact the Mercane traders in the future.
  • The group encountered a ship ("Blood Clot").  They killed the Blood Fiends who served Orcus and freed a demon named Azael.  They learned that Azael was a poor spy who has been working for Orcus to spy on Demogorgon but was found out and captured.  Azael was quite helpful with information, hoping to earn his freedom as well as please his former master, Orcus, by helping those who vex the Sibulant Beast.  Azael also told them that prisoner would be sent to the Divided's Ire, a prison for demons.  The group asked Azael to come with them to the prison.
  • The group left the ship in an alcolve protected by spells and walked less than a mile accross paradice island.
  • The group discovered a watch tower on the east side of the prison which had been all but abandoned for some time.
  • The group entered the prison via a destroyed section of wall and encountered a "Lemorian Golem" (2 heads, 4 tenticles, huge construct).  They discovered that they could not teleport within the prison.  In hindsight, it makes sense to prevent teleportation in a prison when there are plenty of demons who have the ability natively.
